A pencil consists of a thin stick of pigment (usually graphite, but can also be coloured pigment or charcoal) and clay, usually encased in a thin wood cylinder, though paper and plastic sheaths are also used.
(Lead) from a pencil is actually graphite which is 100% carbon

∙ 14y agoEven though it is called lead that is in the pencil, there is no actual lead in the pencil whatsoever. In fact it is made of a mixture of graphite and clay that is baked hard and put in the pencil.
Pencil "lead" is not actually made of lead — it is composed of a mixture of graphite and clay. The combination of these materials creates a smooth and resilient writing core that is easily erasable.

∙ 8y agoWell, it is not lead! It is actually graphite, a pure form of carbon. Graphite and lead both mark paper, hence the confusion.

pencil . The 'lead' in a pencil is actually graphite.
Yes, pencil "lead" is not actually lead metal but graphite, which is a form of carbon. So, pencil lead is Pb (lead) free.
pencil is use in chromography because the pencil is made from lead
No, they are made out graphite and clay. the only reason why they are called "lead" pencils is simply because way back in ancient greek times, they once used lead as a writing utencial. But after used a few times they quickly stopped the use of lead in pencils.
Pencils use Graphite, not lead. Graphite is made of carbon, and no one mistakes a pencil of having carbon. They may mistake it of having lead, in which it is corrected that pencils no longer use lead-but instead use Graphite, which is made of carbon. It is not often mistaken that a pencil is made of carbon. Because it is made of carbon, so how you can make a mistake by thinking the pencil is made of graphite? Its true, not a mistake. This riddle is probably backwards? Or its just a trick question, I dont even know.
no a led pencil is made of graphite
There is some pencil lead that is made in Canada.
Pencil is made from graphite
Lead is an element, it is not made of anything but lead. But if you are talking about pencil lead then pencil lead is made of graphite.
A typical lead pencil does not actually contain lead. The "lead" in a pencil is made of graphite, which is a crystalline form of carbon. Therefore, there is 0% lead in a lead pencil.

The main body of a pencil is made from soft wood, the 'lead' is made from graphite. The lead can come in many different sizes depending on the pencil holding it.
No, pencil lead (graphite) is not magnetic because it does not contain any magnetic properties. Pencil lead is made of graphite, which is a form of carbon and is not attracted to magnets.
Pencil lead is made of graphite and clay. Newer recipes for pencil lead use waxy polymers to bind the graphite to produce a lead that does not snap when the pencil is flexed.
