What is a low-mass star?

A low mass star will burn very slowly for a very long time, maybe hundreds of billions of years at a cool red temperature. It will eventually run out of fuel, nuclear fusion will cease and it will contract to become a hotter White dwarf star, which will eventually become a black dwarf star as it cools.

The sun is the closest low-mass star to us. It actuallyis the closest star to us anyway. The next closest in Proxima Centari. While the suns light takes 8 min. to reach us, the proxima's would take about 400 years.

the mass of a low mass star is comparatively less than that of a regular star. this means that a low mass star may weigh less than a normal star of equal size. logic then dictates that the lower mass of the low mass star indicates a lower density than the aforementioned equal sized normal star. this lower density would in turn affect the gravitational pull of the low mass star as there would be less gravitational pull (compared to that of a normal star) due to the reduced mass that generates the force. as such, any planet or planetary body that may happen to be orbiting this star would have a very wide orbit but the extent to which a planetary body would be influenced by this gravitational force would be so low as to be considered volatile with risks associated with the orbit "distending" (slowly getting wider and moving away from the planet) and eventual breaking out of orbit, where the planet would soon become a massive meteor hurtling through space until it contacted another stellar body in such a manner that it liquifies both itself and the object it hit or becomes engulfed by a black hole or destroyed by a gamma burst (i.e. tha lazah).

Our Sun is not actually a low mass star compared to other stars because there are also a lot of stars smaller than the sun. However, the sun's mass is very low compared to the most massive star in the universe, and its mass is not very high compared to smaller red dwarfs.
