The voltage rating of a fuse has to do with how long the fuse is / how much dielectric strength exists between the two terminals that don't melt. If you use a fuse that is rated for too low of a voltage, it will likely melt for a fault condition, but the voltage is too high for the gap distance, so an arc will develop across the (open) fuse. So...the fuse does no good. It will not protect equipment if used at a higher voltage than it is rated.

Using 240 volt fuses on a 480 volt 3-phase system can cause the fuses to blow prematurely or not provide adequate protection. The fuses may not be rated to handle the higher voltage and could potentially fail to disconnect the circuit in case of an overcurrent situation, leading to safety hazards or equipment damage. It is important to always use fuses rated for the specific voltage of the electrical system.

42kw in 3phase 120208 system converts to how many amps?

To convert from kilowatts (kW) to amps in a 3-phase system, we need to know the system voltage. Using the formula: Amps = (kW x 1000) / (√3 x Volts), where √3 is the square root of 3. Assuming a system voltage of 120/208V, the amperage would be approximately 135.1 amps.

How if a housewife with a recipe that uses the units of pound and ounce to measure weight of ingredients and needs to buy them in a shop that sells goods measured in metric system?

She needs to use the metric system. Unless she happens to be less intelligent than the majority of people across the world who are competently using metric measures. When you lift your leg to walk you are using which subsystem of your nervous system?

You are using the somatic nervous system when you lift your leg to walk. This system controls voluntary movements like walking and is responsible for connecting the central nervous system to the muscles.

What is the main disadvantage to using fuses?

One main disadvantage of using fuses is that they are one-time use devices that need to be replaced once they have blown. This can result in ongoing maintenance costs and potential downtime while waiting for replacements. Additionally, fuses can be difficult to troubleshoot and identify when they have blown, leading to potential delays in finding and resolving the issue.

How do fuses make using electrical energy safer?

Fuses help protect electrical circuits by breaking the circuit if there is an overload or short circuit. This helps prevent overheating and potential fires. By interrupting the flow of electricity, fuses help to make using electrical energy safer for both people and property.

What is a alternative to fuses?

An alternative to using a fuse is to use an electrical circuit breaker.

Why do the fuses blow after 2 hrs. of using a GPS in the 12 V outlets on a Ford E-350 van?

We had one fuse socket just getting hot enough to fail fuses by temperature and replaced the poor-contacting block! fuses hold now!

What is a disadvantage of used fuses?

One disadvantage of using fuses is when you have a short circuit condition and the circuit opens, the fuse has to be physically removed and replaced with a new one. This is unlike a breaker that just has to be reset to the on position.
