If a plant cell is kept in a dilute solution ( minimum number of solute ions, hypotonic solution), water will go into the cell where there is a higher concentration of ions. If the water potential of the salt solution is greater (less concentrated) than the cell sap of the potato cells, water would move into the potato cells, increasing the size of the potato strip. IF you dilute an animal cell it will swell (plant cells [with cell walls] are immune).
