First, puffer fish are poisonous, so if one is eaten, its predator dies, preventing that predator from reproducing. Secondly, if threatened, they can inflate themselves, expanding in size and pointing their spines outward. This startles predators and hurts them if the predator still tries to bite the pufferfish.
No, spinach plants do not have spikes. They typically have smooth leaves that are green and oval in shape.
the poison is called rotenone and is contained in the root of the plant. it is commonly used for fishing. the poison causes the fish to die in a small pool and they float to the surface. though killed with the poison, the fish do not become poisonous.
The fish you are referring to is likely the pufferfish. When threatened, pufferfish can inflate their bodies with water or air to appear bigger and deter predators. They have spines on their skin that lay flat when not inflated but become prominent when they puff up.
Plants with spikes are adapted to deter herbivores and protect themselves from being eaten. The spikes act as a physical barrier, making it difficult for animals to access the plant's nutrients. Additionally, spikes can also help plants conserve water by reducing water loss through transpiration.

Nunners here, I was wondering which puffer fish you meant because some puffer fish release poison when they inflate, thus killing themselves and other fish in the tank. Or if you get the one that has shark spikes it could wound your goldfish causing it a cut, he could die because of an infection. Also i think puffer fish are tropical fish?
Well the one i know has spikes is the porcupine i think porcupine fish but i know if there is anymore. :-]
