The sides or railings of DNA are made up of alternating sugar (deoxyribose) and phosphate molecules, forming the backbone of the DNA molecule. The rungs or steps of DNA are made up of nitrogenous bases (adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine) which form hydrogen bonds to connect the two strands of the DNA molecule in a complementary manner.
In the Watson and Crick model of DNA, the steps of the ladder are composed of nucleotides. Each nucleotide consists of a sugar molecule (deoxyribose), a phosphate group, and one of four nitrogenous bases: adenine (A), thymine (T), guanine (G), or cytosine (C). These nucleotides are linked together through phosphodiester bonds to form the backbone of the DNA molecule.

A DNA molecule is formed by a sequence of nucleotides arranged in a double helix structure. Each nucleotide consists of a phosphate group, a sugar molecule (deoxyribose), and one of four nitrogenous bases (adenine, thymine, cytosine, or guanine). The steps of the DNA molecule are created by the pairing of complementary bases: adenine pairs with thymine, and cytosine pairs with guanine.
The sides of the DNA molecule are made up of repeating sugar-phosphate groups, not nitrogen bases. The nitrogen bases are arranged in the middle of the DNA molecule and form the rungs of the double helix structure.

A DNA molecule is made up of deoxyribose sugar while RNA is made up of ribose sugar. A DNA molecule is double stranded whilst a RNA molecule is single stranded. A DNA molecule only contains the bases; Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine and Guanine. However a RNA molecule contains the bases; Uracil, Thymine, Cytosine and Guanine. DNA is only found in the nucleus of a cell, while RNA is found in the cytoplasm.
