The atmosphere of Venus is primarily composed of carbon dioxide (96.5%) with small amounts of nitrogen (3.5%) and trace amounts of other gases such as sulfur dioxide and argon. This thick atmosphere creates a runaway greenhouse effect, resulting in extreme surface temperatures and high pressure.
