Venus is the second planet from the Sun and is often referred to as Earth's "sister planet" due to their similar size and composition. It has a thick atmosphere composed mainly of carbon dioxide, has surface temperatures hot enough to melt lead, and experiences a runaway greenhouse effect. Venus also has a dense cloud cover made of sulfuric acid that completely obscures its surface from view.
Layers of sulfuric acid and other volcanic debris caused what is called a runaway greenhouse effect, making the surface temp on Venus frequently in excess of 900 degrees F. Almost all water exists as a vapor, this planet may have been ideal for life sometime in the past, much like mars. It is green and beautiful, you can see it in the night sky when its orbital path is close.
