∙ 6y agoLines of longitude, called meridians, run perpendicular to lines of latitude, and all pass through both poles. Each longitude line is part of a great circle. There is no obvious 0-degree point for longitude, as there is for latitude.
If any line is north or south it has to be latitude, because longitude goes all the way around the earth, from pole to pole.

Zero longitude ... the boundary between east and west ... is the Prime Meridian.

∙ 6y agoThe imaginary line that runs horizontally East to West at zero degrees (0) on a map or a globe is the Equator. The Equator splits the Earth into the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere.
Lines that measure a location's distance north or south of the equator are called latitude lines.

The distance from the equator measured in degrees is called latitude.
Lines of latitude are called parallels because they run parallel to the equator and never intersect each other. They are always equidistant apart and are used to measure distance from the equator in degrees north or south.
Another name for latitude is "parallels." Lines of latitude run horizontally around the Earth and measure the distance north or south of the Equator in degrees.
you know.. either both are equal..it is the line from the equator going to the north or south pole is 300,000 km . . . south and north are equal . . . its called OMANCIKZ LINE.. called the line of south and north...
The distance north or south of the equator is measured in degrees of latitude. For example, the equator is measured at 0 degrees; Sydney Australia lies 33.51 degrees south of the equator; Helsinki Finland lies 60 degrees north of the equator.

It is called latitude.
the answer is longitude and latitude lines
The distance from the equator measured in degrees is called latitude.
Earth's parallels are called lines of latitude. They are imaginary lines that run parallel to the equator and are used to measure the distance north or south of the equator in degrees.
Astronomers commonly use the unit of measurement called a "light-year" to describe vast distances in space. One light-year is the distance that light travels in one year, approximately 5.88 trillion miles or 9.46 trillion kilometers.
Latitude is the angle that describes the location of a place north or southof the equator. All lines of constant latitude are parallel.
There is no city called 'equator'. Please improve the question.
'Distance' can't be measured in degrees. The angle from the equator to the place of interestis the latitude of the place.
