All elements are made up of atoms, which are the basic building blocks of matter. Each atom consists of a nucleus containing protons and neutrons, surrounded by electrons orbiting the nucleus. The number of protons in the nucleus determines the identity of the element.

there are 118 elements on the Periodic Table of elements. these 118 elements make up everything in the world. elements are not made up of anything they can not be broken down anymore.

"Element" is the name given to the simplest possible chemical substances; that is, those that cannot be broken down further using chemical processes.

Elements, like everything else, are made of atoms, but unlike compound substances, all the atoms in an elemental substance have the same atomic number.

We now know that atoms are composed of smaller particles (electrons, protons, and neutrons), and the neutrons and protons are composed of even smaller particles: up quarks and down quarks, held together by gluttons.

Chemical elements are made up of atoms.

Atoms are made of three types of elementary particles: protons (+), neutrons (neutral), and electrons (-).

Protons and neutrons contain quarks and gluons.

What did Carl Sagan mean when he said you are all star stuff?

Simply that the atoms humans are made up of were forged in the furnaces of dying stars. The basic elements that make up a living body or cell were all created this way, all the elements that exist (with the exception of Hydrogen and Helium) were all created in the fireballs made up of the two elements mentioned earlier.

All elements are made up of individual atoms. There are no exceptions. An element of something must be represented by at least one atom of that substance.
