Why is Rosa doing Annie's job?

Rosa is doing Annie's job because it it cheaper to pay her than it is Annie. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, her is a little summary. Annie lives in Cheshire, England. She is married and has two children. She used to work for Dewhirst Fabrics, which is a clothing manufacturer. This was the supplier for M&S. However, their profits were steadily dropping for many years, and they realised they had to make some cuts. If Dewhirst didn't cut their money back, M&S would have to find a new supplier. The only thing Dewhirst could do was get rid of some of their factories. This is why Annie is now unemployed, even though she is a skilled machinist. Rosa lives in Manila, which is the capital of Philippines. She is only 16 years old; she left her home village 5 months ago because there were no jobs there. Rosa was excited about working for Dewhirst, who have now moved their factories over to Manila, because they promised her enough money for her to return home. This was all lies. Rosa earns £4 a day, for a 12 hour day. Annie earned £42 a day, for an 8 hour day. Now can you see why it was cheaper for Dewhirst to move abroad? The working conditions are terrible in Manila. Rosa finds it hard to live on the money she earns, so she often works overtime. However, this damages her health, as she spends so long in a room full of dust, which soon gets inside her lungs. Rosa would have to work 100 hours just so she could buy something she was making. A room is provided for Rosa, but she has to share it with 5 other people. The room only has three bunk beds and nails in the walls for them to hang her clothes up. No chairs. No wardrobe. There's a public toilet outside, which the whole street share. The street also uses the same bath. Sadly, there are more people, like Annie and Rosa.
