Well one conclusion is to not listen to a word Ian says, it's utter BS
tsunami are a major threat to us as we tend to live by the sea in large numbers many of the world largest cities are either on the coast or on rivers a short distance inland, in terms of tsunami we have had a pretty easy ride in modern times till 2004 when we were shown the devastation they can cause, I guess Ian thinks 300,000 deaths is funny, and the more recent Japanese disaster.
Look at a little history though and you find these have happened many times It is now very likely the Minoan Civilization was decimated by a tsunami, when the volcano on Santorini erupted, the Romans and Greeks new of and described tsunami. Further back in history Hawaii is known to have been the cause of at least half a dozen mega tsunami caused by landslides of it's steep sided and unstable volcanic soils, the waves from these events are thought to have been 1000 to 1500m high so tsunami do not always require an earthquake as the trigger evidence shows at least one of these hit the coast of the U.S. another cause is impact from asteroids given that the surface of the Earth is 70% water any such impact is more likely to be in water depending on size these can produce waves as large or larger than the Hawaiian ones.
The largest known modern tsunami happened in Alaska in 1958 in Lituya Bay caused by an earthquake, luckily it was contained by the bay, but the wave created was over 500m high two fishermen were killed and two others actually managed to ride the wave and survived, that would have been one heck of a ride. As a guide the Empire State Building is 443m high.
For a class 10 social studies project on tsunamis, you could cover topics such as what causes tsunamis, the impact they have on coastal communities, the warning systems in place to detect them, and how communities can prepare and respond to a tsunami. You could also discuss famous historical tsunamis and the importance of global cooperation in dealing with this natural disaster. Remember to include visuals like maps, diagrams, and photographs to enhance your presentation.
The last Tsunami in Washington was on March 10, 2011. The tsunami originated of the coast of Japan. While there was not much coastal flooding, some boats and docks were damaged.

There are tsunamis and there are tsunami trains. A tsunami is generated by an underwater earthquake. A new tsunami has to wait for a new earthquake. It is not uncommon for any earthquake to be followed by one or more aftershocks within a matter of hours or days, so a new tsunami can result similarly. Since earthquake behavior is notoriously unpredictable, so is tsunami generation. A single tsunami results in a series of waves with periods ranging from minutes to hours. This is called the tsunami "wave train". There is more information in the related links.
