∙ 13y agoYes, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) operates the INSAT series of geostationary satellites that provide weather forecasting over India. These satellites help in monitoring weather patterns, cloud cover, and other meteorological data to improve forecasts and warnings related to weather events in the region.
India has launched 9 navigation satellites under its Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS). These satellites provide positioning information over India and the surrounding region.
India's second satellite launched in 1979 was named Bhaskara-I. It was an experimental Earth observation satellite designed for remote sensing applications.
IMD (India Meteorological Department) predicts weather using a combination of observational data from weather stations, satellites, radar systems, and computer models that simulate atmospheric processes. These models analyze factors like temperature, humidity, wind speed, and air pressure to forecast weather patterns and provide warnings for extreme weather events.
Cyclones are named by regional weather forecasting organizations, such as the National Hurricane Center in the United States, the India Meteorological Department, and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. Names are chosen from pre-determined lists and are usually based on a rotation system to avoid confusion.
Indian Standard Time (IST) is specifically followed in India.
GSLV-F06 was recently launched by India ( ISRO- Indian Space Research Organisation) but it failed and was destroyed.

The supercomputer program in India was started in late 1980s. In India, the places where supercomputers are used: Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, IT Services Provider, Manufacturing Company India, National Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasting, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, ISRO, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, CSIR Centre for Mathematical Modelling and Computer Simulation.
Aryabhatta was the first satellite sent by India.
As of April 4, 2014, India has a total of 74 launched satellites. The Indian satellites are under the management of Indian Space Research Organization or ISRO.
