We believe that the universe is expanding.
The universe is currently expanding, as evidenced by the Hubble Constant, which indicates that the greater distance a star is from an observer, the faster that star is receding away from the observer. This Hubble Constant holds true for all observers, no matter where they might rest in the universe, and the Hubble Constant applies to all stars in all directions of the sky for each observer.

∙ 14y agoThe sun is actually expanding. As it ages, the sun is gradually running out of hydrogen fuel in its core, causing it to fuse hydrogen in a shell surrounding the core. This expansion will eventually lead to the sun becoming a red giant in its later life stages.

In many years to come, that may slow and show that the Universe might well be contracting, but to date, the Universe is expanding and the current calculations show that it will continue to do so........ Watch this space.

∙ 14y agoThe universe is expanding (detectable by a red-shift in the apparent color of the stars) and, current evidence tells us that the universe is actually speeding up as it expands, counter-intuitive to most models of the universe.

Expanding and contracting work together in weathering through a process called freeze-thaw weathering. Water penetrates into cracks in rocks, where it freezes and expands, causing the rock to crack. When the ice thaws, the rock contracts, further weakening it. Over time, this cycle of expanding and contracting leads to the breakdown of rocks into smaller pieces.

If all galaxies began to show blue shifts, it would indicate that the universe is contracting. This could suggest that the universe might eventually end in a "Big Crunch" scenario, where all matter collapses in on itself.
The vacuole is the expanding and contracting organelle that stores water, nutrients, and waste in plant cells. It helps regulate the cell's internal environment by maintaining turgor pressure and storing essential substances.
The contracting and expanding of rock from the sun or water and ice breaks any rock that has a weak seam. The wind tends to grind rocks down by blowing sand grains against the rock's surface.

Contracting
An example of something that is contracting is a deflating balloon, as its volume decreases. An example of something that is expanding is a growing plant, as it increases in size and complexity.

An example of something expanding and contracting is a balloon. When air is blown into the balloon, it expands. When the air is released, the balloon contracts back to its original size.
