∙ 13y agoIt is not true that a dormant volcano is erupting. If it's erupting, it's by definition not dormant.
It has pretty much always been, and will pretty much always be, true that a dormant volcano may erupt in the near future.

∙ 13y agoIf a volcano is dormant, it is currently not erupting but it has the potential to become active again in the future. Monitoring by scientists can help indicate if there are signs of increased activity that may lead to an eruption. It's important to stay informed by local authorities and experts regarding any potential volcanic hazards.
In that case, the volcano would be referred to as dormant.
No, "dormant" typically describes a volcano that is not currently erupting but has the potential to erupt in the future. When a volcano is actively erupting, it is usually described as "active."
An active volcano is one that is erupting or is likely to erupt.A dormant volcano is one that has not erupted for a long time (but is still possibly active). An extinct volcano is one that is not likely to erupt again.
"Dormant" is used to describe a volcano that is temporarily inactive but could potentially erupt again in the future. It refers to a period of inactivity in the volcano's eruption cycle, which can last for many years or even centuries. During this time, the volcano is not actively erupting, but it is still considered capable of erupting again in the future.
It can be called an active, dormant or extinct volcano. An active volcano erupts regularly and frequently, however, it might not erupt at some times. A dormant volcano rarely erupts. Therefore, it does not erupt for most of the time. An extinct volcano does not erupt anymore.

No, Extinct = Not likely explode again Dormant = hasnt't erupted for hundreds or thousands of years but may still erupt Active = Recently erupted, and is likely to erupt

a dormant volcano
An extinct volcano has not had an eruption for at least 10,000 years and is not expected to erupt again in a comparable time scale of the future. This is in contract to a dormant volcano, which is an active volcano that is not erupting, but supposed to erupt again. An active volcano is a volcano that has had at least one eruption during the past 10,000 years. An active volcano might be erupting or dormant.
An example of a volcano that is currently inactive but has the potential to erupt again in the future is Mount Rainier in Washington, USA. It is considered a dormant stratovolcano with a history of explosive eruptions and is closely monitored for signs of potential activity.

Mauna Kea in Hawaii is considered unlikely to erupt again, as it is a dormant shield volcano with no historical record of recent eruptions.
asleep, if it did not erupt for 200 years it is dormant
