To make a model of a Volcano you need to make play dough first you will see why?
You will need:
6 cups flour
2 cups salt
4 tablespoons cooking oil
2 cups water
Food colouring
Instructions:
1. Mix the flour, salt, cooking oil and water by hand ( no electric mixers!) in a large bowl until the mixture is smooth and firm to touch
2. Add a few drops of the food colouring of your choice in order to give the dough its desired colour. Remember, this dough is going to form the outer surface of your Volcano, you can make to look as realistic or as wild as you want!
Right now to make the Volcano!
For the next part
You will need:
1 cardboard box
1 litre drink Bottle( clean and empty)
Old newspapers
Tape or glue
play dough( See the first recipe
Rolling pin
Instructions:
1. Take your cardboard box and put it on a flat surface
2. Place your drink bottle in the middle of the box it will probably help to make sure the bottle is attached to the box, either by taping it down or gluing it firmly. Don't worry about how it looks at this point- the bottle will soon be completely covered.
3. Roll up the old newspaper or other scraps of paper into tight balls.
4. Place the balls around and up the drink bottle, sticking them together with tape or glue as you work, in order to form the volcano shape around the bottle. ( Remember you must leave a hole at the top!)
5. Lay the play dough on a flat surface and roll it with your rolling pin until you've formed a thin sheet large enough to drape over your Volcano.
6. After placing the sheet of play dough over the model, make sure you remove the dough just over the opening of your bottle, so you have a hole on the top of the model.
Right now you have made your volcano, you can add detail now like painting your volcano and putting trees around, or paint red streams starting at the opening of the volcano and travelling down the mountain to symbolize lava flow, anything you want.

To make a volcano model, you can use materials like baking soda, vinegar, and play dough. Build a cone-shaped structure using the play dough to represent the volcano, with a hollow center leading to the top. When ready, add baking soda to the hollow center and pour vinegar inside to create a volcanic eruption.
Making The Volcano Part1: Creating the FrameMaterials Required:
These are the basic Materials:
First Lets Make the Volcano Shell
Start out with your box and your bottle. Use a corrugated box because it is nice and strong. Just about any bottle will do, plastic or glass. The box should be taller than the bottle.
Put the bottle in the box and cut out the box just like shown in this picture. The slanted part in the back, behind the bottle will be where you can draw a nice diagram of the volcano and how it works.
Cut a hole out under the bottle. This will be so you can easily take the bottle out for cleaning and reuse of the volcano.
Now cover the bottle with a bag. This will keep the plaster or dough from adhering to it. Makes it much easier to get in and out.
Now make your volcano shape using strips of cardboard from the excess parts of the box that you cut away.
Tape them together, glue them, staple them. Do whatever is comfortable and easy for you.
Stuff the frame with crumpled up pieces of paper or newspaper. This will give it strength.
We are ready to make the shell of this volcano and I will show you pictures of how I make it and give you some easy alternatives so you can choose which way is right for you. Lets continue and make the shell of the volcano

Making a volcano for a 6th grade project is very simple. Make the volcano out of paper mache and use baking soda and vinegar for the explosion.
a volcano has about 6-10 layers
Earth + Lava = Volcano Fire + Earth = Lava
Lava and rock explode out of the volcano then lava pours down the volcano covering the land then turning into rock making the volcano bigger.
