What has to be done is to judge the temperature of the heat emitted by the light bulb. This temperature should be adjusted by the distance from the bulb to the plant. As long as the leaves do not get hot and burn then this should be considered a proper distance. The key is not to damage the leaves.

A 100 watt light bulb should be placed about 12-24 inches away from a plant, depending on the light intensity needed by the plant species. It's important to monitor the plant's response to the light to ensure it's receiving the right amount without causing damage.

Most indoor plants grow well in diffused light. Therefore, direct light should be away at least a meter or so.

The question means: how far should the source of light be etc. The "light" has to hit the leaf for the plant to use the energy.
