∙ 12y agoIf you have both the mass number and atomic number you can figure it out, since the atomic number is the number of protons.
Say the mass number is 13 and the atomic number is 8. 13-8 is 5, so you would have 5 neutrons.

∙ 12y agoYou determine the number of protons from the atomic number, which is equal to the number of protons. To find the number of neutrons, subtract the atomic number from the mass number.
By the sum of protons and neutrons we obtain the mass number of the atom which is written at the top of the atom periodic number. We can also obtain the mass number by adding the atomic number and the number of neutrons because the atomic number and the number of protons are same. You know that scientists have discovered some particles which are smaller than protons and neutrons and these are known as quartz.
Find the atomic number. That tells you the number of protons and electrons (in a neutral atom). Then find the atomic weight. The number of protons plus the number of neutrons will equal the atomic weight. So if you know the wt. just subtract the number of protons and you will have the number of neutrons.
protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom. Isotopes of an element have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. The number of neutrons in an atom affects its stability and often determines its nuclear properties.
Atomic number = number of protons + number of neutrons Mass number = number of protons + number of neutrons
The mass number tells you the amount of protons and neutrons in an element. It is the sum of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom.
The "25" is the mass number, which is the sum of the number of neutrons and protons. We don't know how many neutrons there are, but we do know how many protons magnesium has. The atomic number of an element is the same as the number of protons, so locating a Periodic Table, magnesium is number 12, which means 12 protons. If mass number = number of protons + number of neutrons, then number of neutrons = mass number - number of protons (or atomic number). So 25 - 12 = 13 neutrons in 25Mg.
This is the mass number.
25 is the number of protons and neutrons added together. The atomic number of Mg is 12 which is the number of protons. So 25 - 12 = 13 neutrons.

The Atomic Mass is equal to the number of protons plus neutrons. So if you know the atomic number then you can find out the number of neutrons Atomic # is the amount of Protons or Electrons Atomic Mass- Number of protons plus neutrons Atomic Mass-Atomic Number = Amount of neutrons

The mass number of an atom is the sum of protons and neutrons in its nucleus. Given that an atom of iodine has 76 neutrons and typically has 53 protons, the mass number of this iodine atom would be 53 (protons) + 76 (neutrons) = 129.

The number after the "N", 15, is the mass number. The mass number is the sum of the number of protons and the number of neutrons. So, if you find a periodic table, you can find the atomic number, which is the same as the number of protons. Because the atomic number of nitrogen is 7, it has 7 protons. Then we take the mass number (protons + neutrons) and subtract the number of protons to find the number of neutrons. 15 - 7 = 8 neutrons in 15N.
