They are not really simlar: The hydrogen atom consists of a single proton in its nucleus. If you add 1 neutron you have the isotope Deuterium add a second neutron and you have Tritium. Although the mass increases the chemistry of hydrogen and its isotopes does not. Hellium is a different atom altogether with 2 protons in the nucleus along with 2 neutrons and its own unique chemistry. Barry
