Can spandex be dissolved? Yes it can. N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) is one chemical that will dissolve spandex (am looking for others).

Keep in mind that its incredibly rare to have a piece of fabric comprised of 100% spandex. Generally polyester is blended with spandex in 85:15 or 90:10 ratios to give a material stretchiness. But NMP will dissolve spandex fibers from a spandex spool, but will not touch the polyester fibers.

No, spandex is a synthetic fiber made from polyurethane, which is very resistant to most solvents. However, it can be degraded over time from exposure to chlorine, high heat, or certain chemicals.
