atoms had gained or lost one or more electron are called ions.

so no. the number of neutron and proton don't change. unless it was isotope you are talking about. they have the same atomic number but different Atomic Mass, which means different number of neutron.

Yes, isotopes are atoms of the same element with the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. This variation in neutron number can result in different atomic masses for isotopes of the same element.

Atom does not have to have equal numbers of protons and?

neutrons in order to be stable. The number of protons determines the element's identity, while the stability of the nucleus is influenced by the balance of protons and neutrons. Isotopes can have different numbers of neutrons while maintaining the same number of protons.

Do atoms have different numbers of protons and neutrons?

yes

What are the different numbers of neutrons called when two atoms have the same number of protons?

Two atoms with the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons are called "isotopes".

In what way do these atoms corresponds and in what way do they differin terms of their mass numbers?

Atoms correspond in that they are all made up of protons, neutrons, and electrons. However, they differ in their mass numbers, which is the sum of protons and neutrons. Atoms of different elements have different mass numbers due to varying numbers of protons and neutrons.

What is the name given to atoms of the same element that have the same number of protons?

Atoms of the same element cannot have different numbers of protons. Different numbers of protons mean different elements. An atom with the a different number of neutrons is called an isotope.

What is an isotone?

An isotone is a group of atomic nuclei that have the same neutron number but different atomic numbers. This means isotones have the same number of neutrons but different numbers of protons. Isotones are different from isotopes, which have the same atomic number but different numbers of neutrons.

What atom has the same element same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons?

Isotopes of an element have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. For example, carbon-12 and carbon-14 are isotopes of carbon with 6 protons but 6 and 8 neutrons, respectively.

Is the is the sum of the numbers of protons and neutrons in an isotope of the element?

Isotopes involve different atomic masses. It is sum of number of protons and neutrons.

How many protons are there in carbon?

There are 6 protons in carbon. The weights of the different isotopes are due to different numbers of neutrons.

What does isotopes?

All atoms of an element contain the same number of electrons and protons but they can have different numbers of neutrons. Atoms with different numbers of neutrons are isotopes.

What are characteristic of isotopes?

Same number of protons, but different numbers of neutrons.

Why are masses of different isotopes of the same element different?

Mass numbers of isotopes is the sum of the protons and neutrons. If the same element the atoms must have the same number of protons (different protons = different elements) so the mass numbers are different only because they have different numbers of neutrons. Ex: a;; carbon atoms must have 6 protons, most carbon atoms have 6 neutrons also, this they are carbon-12. Some carbon atoms have 8 neutrons so these are carbon-14.
