The above answer is partly correct in that the grasses such as rye, rice, wheat and corn are monocots, but all other flowering plants except for the grasses and sedges are dicotyledons (dicots).
Flowering plants are classified as either monocots or dicots based on the number of seed leaves (cotyledons) they have. Monocots have one seed leaf, while dicots have two seed leaves.

Neither. The monocot/dicot classification only applies to flowering plants.
Ylang ylang (Cananga odorata) is a dicot plant. It belongs to the family Annonaceae, which is a family of dicot flowering plants.
No, catnip is not a monocot. Catnip belongs to the mint family, which is part of the order Lamiales, while monocots are a class of flowering plants with one cotyledon in their seeds.
Monocot stems are typically found in plants with parallel venation, while dicot stems are found in plants with reticulate venation. Monocot stems are usually found in the stems of grasses and palms, whereas dicot stems are found in a wide range of flowering plants.
Lilies are monocots, as they belong to the Monocotyledon group of flowering plants. This means they have one seed leaf when germinating.

It is dicot...
Lilies are monocots, as they belong to the Monocotyledon group of flowering plants. This means they have one seed leaf when germinating.
No, cycas plants are not monocots. They belong to a different group of plants called gymnosperms, which are seed-producing plants that have exposed seeds, unlike monocots and dicots, which are flowering plants with enclosed seeds.
Neither. Monocot and dicot are two classifications of vascular seed plants (the flowering and cone plants) Hornworts are in a very primitive group of plants usually called Lycophytes. The Lycophyta also includes liverworts and mosses. They are the non-vasuclar seedless plants. Since the terms monocot and dicot refer most specifically to the structure of the seed, they do not desribe the seedless plants.
A daylily is a monocot. Monocots have one seed leaf (cotyledon), while dicots have two. Daylilies belong to the family Liliaceae, which typically consists of monocot plants.
No, rice seed is a monocot seed. Monocot seeds have one seed leaf (cotyledon), while dicot seeds have two seed leaves. Rice plants are monocots, belonging to the Monocotyledonae class of flowering plants.
A birch tree is a dicot because it belongs to the class Magnoliopsida, which includes dicotyledonous flowering plants. Dicots have two seed leaves, net-like veins in the leaves, and flower parts in multiples of four or five.
Neither, because it is not an angiosperm (flowering plant). A monocot (monocotyledon) is an angiosperm with one cotyledon (seed-leaf) while a dicot (dicotyledon) is an angiosperms with two cotyledons (seed-leaves). Western red cedars are gymnosperms. A gymnosperm has "naked seeds" meaning that the seeds (ovules) are not found in an ovary but rather on leaves, scales or in cones.
NO. Only flowering plants can be classified as either falling under monocot or dicot. Ferns are not flowering plants therefore are not monocots. They produce using spores and are classified as Pterophytes.
