Why was the majority of teenagers not punk?

Punk rock is rebellion music, and teenagers love to rebel. It's part of growing up.

its also an escape from reality and parts of punk are individual and everyone wants to be individual.

Also most of the time in punk music, there are true forms then theres stuff that u can relate like not being able to drink and stuff haha it just sounds kick ass!!

Also, I believe that the naming of music has simply been altered to cater to less-talented musicians.

In today's society, there are rarely any "punk" bands that are actually punk. They may have a 10% punk influence, but it certainly never means they're punk.

I think that most of the time it isn't that teenagers love punk-Rock Music, it's that they can't differentiate talented & original from uncreative copycat music; & latch onto a band before they've realized what a joke the band actually is.

Therefore when a band pops up in their circle of friends or on a label that they enjoy, they treat that band as if it's unique & creative when in reality they're merely a group of 25 year old men making music that the average middle-schooler could make, taking bits & pieces & playing the simplest form of a genre while promoting it for a young demographic of fans.

Nowadays, any band that dresses/sounds like Green Day is considered a form of "punk rock".

Just like Punk has "pop-punk" or metal has "hardcore", they're just dull emulations of dying genres. Hardcore bands only exist because ithey couldn't compete with metal. They could've either been a crappy metal band, or one of the best hardcore bands. It's the same with pop-punk or any other ridiculous variation of what was once a real form of personal representation.

Example: "Let's go listen to A Day to Remember with all our friends & act like it's good music because we don't know there have been several past bands that played better, original versions of this music that we don't know about."

Well...

It started with kids looking for a way to rebel against all the things they didn't believe in.

Now, it's a way for stupid kids who don't even know what the word 'punk' means to dress up and act like they're so mad at the world. :)
