The Uganda Parliament is often referred to as the "August House" as a sign of respect and reverence for the institution and its members. The term "August" in this context is derived from the Latin word "augustus," meaning venerable or respected. It signifies the importance and dignity of the Parliament as the highest legislative body in the country.

How is Britain governed today?

Britain is primarily governed by the House of Commons. This is made up of 650 MPs (members of parliament) elected from 650 constituencies of varying sizes. Any law passed by the house of commons is ratified by the house of Lords and most bills can be created in either house. The parliament act however allows the commons to pass bills to royal assent without the House of Lords. The House of Lord is made up of 750 lords 600 keep there seats for life there are 92 hereditary Lords none are elected. The Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet are almost always from the Commons but can be from the House of Lords. Before any bill is made law in Britain it must pass through both houses of parliament and then go for royal assent where the Current Sovereign makes it law. The last time a bill was refused was by Queen Anne in 1707. To add confusion some parts of Britain have regional assemblies. This in Britain is called devolution. Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland have regional assemblies that are elected by the people of that country. (The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a proper country. England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland are also still known as countries even though they are all governed as a single nation.) Regional assemblies act as a limited form of government for three of the four countries in the union. England has no regional government causing an unbalance in the four regions. In Scotland university is free and paid for by the Scottish parliament in England most people have to pay personally for the same education. The Scottish parliament has some power over law and it was the Scottish parliament that released the Lockerbie Bomber not the British parliament. This caused huge confusion in the United States with people condemning the whole of Britain for the act of one regional government. Today then Britain is governed by parliament if you live in England and also by a regional assembly if you live in Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
