i came on this website looking to find that exact same answer! but seeing as how nobody's answered it, i will. I can't take jokes because they're usually witty sarcastic insulting things that ppl take lightly. I was never joked w/that way while growing up (granted I'm only 20.) Anyway, my brain just doesn't work like that. I cant come up w/a smart quick witted funny comeback. & when i do i guess the delivery is lame cus no one ever laughs. so since i cant say a joke back, when they keep joking w/me i feel bullied. that's why i can't take jokes.
Ah, the age old question, why do people tell silly jokes? Since the paleolithic time when Homo Sapiens first began telling jokes, there have always been those who tell silly jokes. Even before Homo Sapien there were Homo Nanderthalis asking question like; which came first the chicken or the egg, or why did the chicken cross the road or even why is six afraid of seven. During the bronze age, psychiatry began to first form its own brand of silliness while trying to determine why it is that people tell such silly jokes. Many psychological tests were given during this time and many dream therapist working over time to figure out why it is people tell silly jokes. Silly jokes, during the bronze age were, however, at the height of popularity and since the ancient psychiatrists could not figure out why, they could not defeat this silly behavior, so they decided if you cant beat them then join them. This is when the silly joke; "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.", first found popularity. Ancient Egyptian psychiatrist would often tell this silly joke at cocktail parties and laugh and laugh and laugh until it just wasn't funny anymore. People outside the profession at that time did not think it was either funny nor silly because nobody knew what a cigar was, even the psychiatrists who told that silly joke.
The most popular silly joke, by far, in ancient Egypt during the bronze age was; "I'd like to hang out with you tonight but I have to stay at home to look after my mummy." By the time the bronze age had arrived all the silliness had subsided for a while and people stopped telling silly jokes, or most people did, while the rest told heavy metal jokes. But once the bronze age passed into modern history silliness found its footing again and silly jokes became a permanent part of cultures around the world. In Palestine during the time of Christ, it is a little known fact that Josephus made much of his wealth performing in comedy clubs telling nothing but silly jokes. He was the Henny Youngman of his time and was asking audiences to take his wife please long before Henny was even married! The distillation of alcohol was key in the rise of popularity for silly jokes and perhaps it was the booze talking and much that was said was never intended to be a joke but became a silly joke anyway.
This is why the Roman Emperor Constantine was so famous for his silly jokes. He drank a lot, and when his advisers would suggest he shouldn't drink he would respond by saying; "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy." This joke became such a historical nugget that many years later in Europe, after arecheologist's had uncovered the lost art of Egyptian psychiatry, that Europe had its own psychiatric movement and so enamored with Constantine's joke, it was Freud himself that suggested they refer to the brain surgery the performed to cure madness as a frontal lobotomy.
But, I get ahead of myself. During the reign of Edward the Longshanks, the Scottish were famous, not only for their hagis and kilts but for their silly jokes. William Wallace was known to be particularly fond of silly jokes and would often walk up to the lords of Scotland and ask; "Hey, do you know what Robert the Bruce's middle name is?" Wallace knew that Robert the Bruce was a fiercely private man and always expected to get the reply he got, which was "I don't know, what is it?" Wallace would grin wide and shout; "THE!" and then walk away laughing and laughing and laughing until it just wasn't funny anymore.
Back to the modern psychiatrists and their efforts to discover why it is that people tell silly jokes; Freud, upon learning what early Egyptian psychiatrist were telling as a joke, realized that he did know what a cigar was and so it was less funny and more psychobabble, but Freud did think that the proclivity of telling silly jokes might come from deep seeded resentments of the silly jokester's mothers. That theory held for many years until the double helix was discovered and then it was only a matter of time before geneticist discovered the silly gene. I don't mean those old faded jeans with patches of smurfs and care bears sewed on them, which granted is silly in its own right, I am talking about the specific genetic code that makes some people more compelled to tell silly jokes over other. This identification of a silly gene has been labeled sillypsitis, and the reason I know so much about it is I have, as you may have surmised, been diagnosed with sillypsitis. There is no cure as of yet for this profoundly debilitating disease and the only remedy is to find some tolerant website such as wikianswers and to get those silly jokes off my chest.
So, I thank thee, one and all, for patiently putting up with me and my medication.
I guess Its because for them that's not a big thing but for the person to whom they are passing these mean jokes are a big issues. And They aren't aware of how it makes you feel. If you feel like they're picking on you and have offended you, you should bring it up to your friend. Well In each case we should have a margin to forgive and forget these mean things.

People often joke about things that are uncomfortable to discuss. Most people who have not been to prison don't know what it is like being locked up, and most don't want to go there and find out. They often lack sympathy for the people in there, so they may joke about prison rape, when that is actually a serious problem. Sometimes homophobia or anger at the incarcerated fuels the prison rape jokes.
