Ozzy abused drugs and alcohol heavily around 1978-1979 and it was more the less what Tony wanted. So when Ozzy left the band started to fall apart as Bill Ward left and went as did Geezer Butler the same year, after a short period of time Geezer went with Ozzy on a few albums... good times.

UPDATE: OZZY OSBOURNE HAS REUNITED WITH BLACK SABBATH ON 11/11/11 AND WILL BE RECORDING A NEW ALBUM AND TOURING. THEY HAVE ALREADY ANNOUNCED TOUR DATES ON THEIR WEBSITE, http://www.blacksabbath.com/
When Ozzy was a teenager, he fell in love with The Beatles. He was inspired to start his own band. Ozzy posted a sign at a local music shop, requesting that he needs a gig. He later met with Geezer Butler and joined a band called 'Music Machine'. After Music Machine split up, Ozzy served some jail time. After months went by, he asked the store clerk to take down the advertisement, but the store clerk never did. A couple of months after that, Ozzy's former schoolmate Tony Iommi saw the ad and, eager to find a gig, went to Ozzy with his friend Bill Ward (Drummer). Ozzy, Iommi, and Ward still needed a bassist. Ozzy suggested Geezer Butler as a bassist and Black Sabbath was formed.
Dio quit Black Sabbath following a show in Oakland, California on 13 November 1992, one night before the band were set to appear at Osbourne's retirement show. In his words, "I was told in the middle of the tour that we would be opening for Ozzy in Los Angeles. And I said, "No. Sorry, I have more pride than that." A lot of bad things were being said from camp to camp, and it created this horrible schism. So by [the band] agreeing to play the shows in L.A. with Ozzy, that, to me, spelled out reunion. And that obviously meant the doom of that particular project."
So, basically, it was a matter of pride for Ronnie.
YES!!!He was the first vocalist, and the longest staying. He sang in about 6 different albums for Sabbath before going solo. actually tony iommi is the longest staying and black sabbath is still toghether they just dont tourFull answer...Yes he was, sung on Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Vol. 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sabotage, Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die before leaving due to disenchantment. He is the longest-running of Sabbath's vocalists (Tony Martin is second with 5 albums), but Tony Iommi is the only member of Sabbath who's been there all along. Sabbath have now become Heaven and Hell, which is the Mob Rules/Dehumanizer lineup with Dio and Appice. _____________Ozzy just recently reunited with Black Sabbath on 11/11/11.
