sound waves cant travel through space because there is no oxygen, and if there is no oxygen there is nothing to carry the sound waves.

How do drums sound in space?

Most likely gravity believe it or not, the sound waves travel differently :)

How far do guitar sound waves travel?

Guitar sound waves may vary. They travel way back to when you were born.

How does sound travel from a band to the fans?

Speakes and sound waves.

How do sound waves travel through media?

Sound waves travel through vibrations. If one particle starts vibrating it will pass on that movement to other particles that are close by. This means that sound travels quickly through solids as the particles are closely packed and readily pick up movement from their neighbours; it travels less quickly through liquids as the particles are close enough to pick up vibrations but not tightly packed like they are in solids; sound travels slowest through gases (weird, but true - even though we rely on gases to pass on the sounds we make in speech) because their particles are much further apart. If there are no particles - like in a vacuum such as you'd find in space - then sound can't travel at all!

Why can radio waves travel through space but sound waves cant?

Sound waves are longitudinal waves that need a medium to propagate. This can be air, water or solids. Sound waves work like a truck hitting a line of cars. The wave travels through the line from back to front but would not if there were no cars. Radio waves, like light are electromagnetic waves and don't require a medium to radiate. That is why we see Sunlight but do not hear the constant roar of the Sun's fusion activity.

What can sound waves not travel in?

sound waves can't travel in a vacuum (space)

How do sound waves travel to a satellite?

Sound waves require a medium to travel through, and, since space is a vacuum, sound waves can't travel in it.

What type of waves travel through space?

Sound waves cannot travel through space.

What type of wave can't travel through empty space?

Mechanical waves, such as sound waves, require a medium (such as air, water, or a solid) to travel through and cannot travel through empty space. Electromagnetic waves, such as light waves, can travel through empty space because they do not require a medium.

What is one place sound waves cannot travel?

Sound waves cannot travel in space. Sound waves some medium in order to propagate.

What wave can travel though space where there is no matter?

Electromagnetic waves, such as light and radio waves, can travel through the vacuum of space where there is no matter. These waves do not require a medium to propagate, unlike sound waves which require a medium such as air or water.

If a cymbal were struck in space, how do you predict the waves of sound would travel?

Since space is a vacuum, sound waves do not travel through space. Sound waves need a substance to travel through, since there is nothing in a vacuum, sound waves have nothing to travel through. Thus, a cymbal struck in space would not make an audible sound.

Why do astronauts use radio waves instead of sound waves to communicate in space?

sound needs something to travel through and space has no air for it to travel

Does empty space make sound travel fastest?

Sound waves need a medium (such as air, water, metal and other materials) to travel through. Sound waves travel by slightly displacing the atoms from their original position as it moves. With empty space (no atoms) the sound waves cannot travel at all. In general, sound travels slower in gasses, then faster in liquids, and even faster in solids. Each substance is different, though.

Why can sound waves not travel through empty spuce?

Sound waves require a medium, such as air or water, to propagate because they are mechanical waves that travel by causing particles in the medium to vibrate. In the vacuum of empty space, there are no particles for the sound waves to interact with, so they cannot travel.

What waves can't travel through empty space?

Sound waves.

Why can radio waves travel through space but sound waves can not?

Radio waves are a type of electromagnetic wave that do not require a medium to travel through, allowing them to propagate through the vacuum of space. In contrast, sound waves are mechanical waves that require a medium, such as air or water, to transfer energy and vibrations. Space is a vacuum, lacking the necessary medium, which is why sound waves cannot travel through it.
