Animals that are classified as consumers eat or consume other things. An example of this is a human. We consume plants and (usually) meat. The opposite of this is a producer to makes or produces its own food. An example of this is grass. Through photosynthesis, where the grass needs water, carbon dioxide, sunlight, and nutrients from the soil, the grass is able to produce its own form of food.
In other words, consumers get their energy from other sources and producers make it themselves.
Desert consumers are desert animals that eat other animals or plants. Some desert consumers are camels, scorpians, sand cats, Addax antelope and many others.
Secondary consumers are eaten by tertiary consumers - animals that eat other carnivores.
scorpions are consumers because they eat other animals to obtain energy.
In an ecological food chain consumers are categorized into three groups or levels which are primary consumers, secondary consumers, and the tertiary consumers. Tertiary consumers are usually omnivores. Omnivores are those who feed on both plants and animals. Omnivores can also be considered as secondary consumers. Tertiary consumers, sometimes also known as an apex predator. Human are such example of Tertiary consumers.
Tertiary Consumers: The diets of tertiary consumers may include animals from both the primary and secondary trophic levels. Like secondary consumers, their diet may also include some plants. Examples of tertiary consumers include Hawks, Alligators and Coyotes. Hawks feed on small mammals, lizards and snakes.
carnivoresSecondary consumers eat primary consumers. Primary consumers are herbivores (animals that eat plants). Therefore secondary consumers eat other animals and are sometimes called carnivores. (Secondary consumers could also be omnivores.)
Animals and fungi that must depend on autotrophs for their food energy are called consumers. These consumers are also called heterotrophs.

Animals that eat producers are called primary consumers or herbivores.
