Mily Balakirev, César Cui, Alexander Borodin, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakiv and Modest Mussorgsky were all members of "The Five", aka "The Mighty Handful", "The Balakirev Circle", and "The New Russian School". They were composers who met in St. Petersburg, Russia, 1856-1870, with the aim of producing a specifically Russian kind of art music. Mily Alexeyevich Balakirev (1837-1910) was a Russian pianist, conductor and composer and the leader of "The Five". Stravinsky wrote the music for such ballets as Firebird & The Rite of Spring. He's mostly associated with the Ballet Russe who were 'directed' by Diaghilev & their most famous dancer was probably Nijinsky. The Ballet Russe left Russia at about the time of the Russian Revolution & toured across Europe - their known for taking Ballet into a new direction which is why they liked the work of Stravinsky as he was taking music into new spheres too!
Between classical and romantic Era. He is well known as a greatest composer during classical and romantic periods. Classical Era (1730-1820) Romantic Era (1815-1910)
See my answer on the Discussion page. Irene Eneri was born as Irene Biriukov on Ostrogojsk, on November 2/15 1897. Her parents were an unknown Biriukov (probably an officer) and Maria ("Marussia") Bronikowsky (1874-1928). Her parents were soon divorced, and Maria married Alexei Alexeievitch Goriainov (1872-1935), who adopted the little girl. Irene became a well-known child pianist, using the name Irene Eneri(-Gorainoff). On 4/17 May 1916 she married in St Petersburg Sergei Mikhailovitch Sukhotin (1887-1926). In December of the same year her husband was among the murderers of Rasputin. Irene Eneri married again on 27 April 1946, in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois (France), Paul Petrovitch Borovsky (1892-1955). She died in Paris on January 23 1980. Thank you, very much, Zimon. I red in ALEXANDER PALACE FORUM that Prince PP ISHEEV (1889 - 1959) writes in his memoirs that the real name of IRENE ENERI was CHEGODAEV (¿ ?) and that she was sister of prince Andrey Chegodaev and a very good friend of princess IRINA of RUSSIA , YUSUPOV ' S WIFE. In another INTERNET page , about Sibelius, I found that as a Chegodaev, she was marketed as one of Gengis Khan descendents. Do you, Zimon, speak Russian ? If you do , enter on www._esenin_ru_forum . If you don't, like me , you need translation which is very bad , but on pages 9 and 10 you can found the same story told by Isheev and a charming photo of Irene Eneri with Glazunov. You can find others photos of the little pianist, offered in vintage e. bay ( numbers 95356 and 95364) . Some of her original works are now in Finland, at the Helsinky University. The piano rolls ( 1 piano concert Chopin) recorded the 10 february 1910 at Saint Petersburg are offered for sale. Look for : Welte License Piano Roll set 1st Piano concerto for sale.
