If not Death (the band that is the founder of death metal), I'm gonna have to say Dark Tranquility. Dark Tranquility, Amon Amarth, In Flames, Nightrage, and Insomnium are examples of REAL melodeath (melodic death metal) and not that watered down fully commercialized crap melodeath.
