Both are famous. But not with the same age group, and the in the same context. This is correct for the reasons mentioned above. In the UK, however, I shall imagine that students learn about the UK's modern history and Queen Victoria is perhaps one of the more famous monarchs. I believe her history as ruler of the largest modern empire ( in the mode of a parliamentary monarchy )

"Modern" is the proper term regarding history of even the 19th century.

Now Adele has a place is current musicology. Her name appears in record stores, trade papers and newspapers all the time. So the way the original answers reads is correct on that basis.
