The Saxophone was named for its 1840s inventor Adolphe Sax.

'Saxophone' means voice of Sax. The voice of the man who created the saxophone.

Though often made of brass, the instrument is actually part of the woodwind family - this because the tone is produced using a cane reed.

The saxophone was developed in 1846 by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian-born instrument maker, flautist, and clarinetist working in Paris. While still working at his father's instrument shop in Brussels, Sax began developing an instrument which had the projection of a brass instrument with the agility of a woodwind.

So it was developed in France by a Belgian man.
