CHE BELLA COSA È NA IURNATA 'E SOLE
N'ARIA SERENA DOPPO NA TEMPESTA!
PE' LL'ARIA FRESCA PARE GIÀ NA FESTA...
CHE BELLA COSA NA JURNATA 'E SOLE
When I first saw you with your smile so tender
my heart was captured, my soul surrendered.
I spent a lifetime waiting for the right time
now that you're near the time is here at last!
CHORUS
MA N'ATU SOLE CHIÙ BELLO OI NÈ
O SOLE MIO STA 'NFRONTE A TE!
O SOLE O SOLE MIO
STA 'NFRONTE A TE
STA 'NFRONTE A TE
It's now or never come hold me tight
kiss me my darling, be mine tonight.
Tomorrow will be too late
it's now or never
my love won't wait.
QUANNO FA NOTTE E 'O SOLE SE NE SCENNE
ME VENE QUASE' NA MALINCUNIA
SOTTO A FENESTA TOIA RESTARRIA
QUANNO FA NOTTE E 'O SOLE SE NE SCENNE
Just like a willow we would cry an ocean
if we lost true love and sweet devotion.
Your lips excite me let your arms invite me,
for who knows when we'll meet again this way.
Luciano Pavarotti (Bologna Orchestra) - O Sole Mio (Favorite Neapolitan Songs) which was nominated and won.
You are probably thinking of the (Barcarolle) lit Boat or barge carol) which was written by the German or Austrian composer Offenbach! It was as I recall the theme song of the Operetta (Tales of Hoffmann). Song is not of Italian origin. For that matter the song (O Sole Mio) which dates to l9ll, while recorded famously by Caruso-is NOT by any stretch of the imagination an Operatic aria! People still say- that song from the Opera- O Sole Mio! sorry Enrico.

I believe it was Miriam Gauci (courtesy of Naxos of America). She is a soprano from Malta.

O Sole Mio
"'O sole mio" is a globally known Neapolitan song written in 1898. It has been performed and covered by many artists, including such stalwarts of opera as Enrico Caruso, Beniamino Gigli, Mario Lanza, The Three Tenors, as well as rock/pop artists such as Bryan Adams, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Vitas (who sings it in a high countertenor range) and Elvis Presley. Luciano Pavarotti won the 1980 Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal Performance for his rendition of 'O Sole Mio. The lyrics were written by Giovanni Capurro, and the melody was composed by Eduardo di Capua. Though there are versions in other languages, 'O sole mio is usually sung in the original Neapolitan language. 'O sole mio is the Neapolitan equivalent of Standard Italian Il sole mio and translates literally as "My Sun" (not "Oh My Sun").
