George Harrison of the Beatles actually had a role in it. Decca Records, smarting from turning down the Beatles in 1962 when they became the top-selling recording artists in England the next year, were looking for another rock group of the same calibre to record. Harrison recommended The Rolling Stones to Decca, who signed the Stones up.

Their second single (and first hit in England) was "I Wanna Be Your Man", written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, in the company of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, when they asked how Lennon and McCartney came up with songs. Watching how it was done encouraged Jagger and Richards to begin writing together.
