According to Song Facts Carly was in London doing back up vocals with Harry Nilsson for the song. Mick Jagger happened to call at the studio while she was there. She invited him to come over and sing with them. Mick ended up being the back up singer. Harry felt Mick was better with the song and gentlemanly bowed out.
