Though I am not a college trained theology expert, I think I understand a possible meaning. Jesus is the star. Prior to this time, he had times of great popularity with many people (the star that lately shone, for example at the "triumphal entry"). Now he is near to the time of being crucified and is praying "if it is possible, let this cup pass". Even his disciples aren't staying awake and praying with him. He feels dimmed.
It goes to the tune of Jingle Bells... Christ Is Born Today ----------------------- Many years ago in a stable far away Christ the Lord was born, what a joyful day Singing filled the air, glory shone around, Shepherds on the hillside were astonished by the sound. Oh! Have no fear! Have you heard? Christ is born today. Go and see him lying there In a manger filled with hay. Hey! Then the sky came alive, angels everywhere Singing hymns of joyful praise to the God who sent them there. On to Bethlehem, In a most exciting way. Shepherds went to see Christ the Lord that day. When they saw him there they were filled with joy On their knees they worshipped him God's special baby boy. Oh! (Pete Greystone and Ray Chering)
Oh, what a joy it is to talk about the lovely Aretha Franklin. She was a soulful, powerful, and iconic singer whose voice could move mountains. Her talent and passion shone brightly through every note she sang.
A child like face through a crown of thorns A child shall lead them a child is born In a Bethlehem stable where Mary gave birth In the cradle, the hope of the Earth The glory of heaven shone in from the light of the star of the King that first Christmas night Sweet Baby Jesus Child of God, King of Kings Sweet Baby Jesus Let the Christmas bells ring Now the Bethlehem stable is crumbled to dust The nails they drove through His hands are all rust Born to die, a carpenters son On a Cross between thieves when His work was done And kings and kingdoms have come and they've gone But the Babe in the Bethlehem manger lives on Sweet Baby Jesus Child of God, King of Kings Sweet Baby Jesus Let the Christmas bells ring
I don't believe he takes the Bible literally ~ perhaps more metaphorically. You can kind of hear that in certain songs, like at the end of Toxicity: "When I became the SUN (the literal interpretation is SON) I shone life into the man's heart". It is very obvious that he (and/or the band) is not too keen on the hijacking of the monotheistic religions via Globalism (aka, the War Machine).
While shepherds watched
Yes. And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. (Luke 2:8-9 ESV)
