A guitar maker must be proficient in woodworking, since that's mainly what's involved in making Guitars. There are several tools you need to know how to use, and you'll need to know all the components that go into a guitar, and how to properly assemble them, and if you run your own shop, you'll need a fair amount of business sense as well. Add to that the necessity of having the patience of Job for some of the fine points of the job, and an acceptance of the fact that job satisfaction is going to be a large part of your "salary". Luthiers can make a decent living, but you won't get rich from it.

you need you be able you read music note, be able to play the guitar
If you want to teach yourself to play the guitar, the first thing you will need is a guitar and some picks. The second thing you will need is a book on how to play the guitar. and the third thing you will need is a way to tune the guitar, possibly a pitch pipe. Then you will need to tune your guitar. Then you open the book and start learning and practicing.
you need not only the love and comitment to playing but you need to be able to read the music on the sheets while you are playing the guitar. you need to understand the beats and the notes and you need to know which fret and string to play and at what time. it will take about 6-7 years to learn to play and you need alot of practice. that's why most arstist start when they are in the younger years.
I don't know, but I have one that I need to sell so if you find out let me know. To the previous poster - I'll give you $75 for it :)

Classroom education? Very little. But to be a good guitar maker, you must have a lot of experience building them. The best way to go about doing that is to apply for an apprenticeship with a company that makes them. You will be able to observe professional guitar makers (known as luthiers), and have access to guitar making tools so you can practice making them. Most guitar makers are apprentices for about two years, but if you catch on quickly, you may be able to get hired sooner.
