ok, for basic rehersals and small venues for gigs the Guitars and bass need there own amps. the vocals need a P.A (voice amp)
for bigger venues without its own in house P.A you need:
As above plus a Mixer (with enough inputs to mic all amps and drums) a set of drum mics, on stage monitor for vocals, Power amp, a good set of speakers. and a sprinkling of tallent :0)
For a band you would need a lot of equipment, most of the equipment depends on how many members or what instruments are going to be used or incorporated in the band, the most important would be: Guitar, Bass, Drum set, Microphone, Amps, Maybe another Guitar or Bass depending on how many members you have, You'll definitely need the right cords and hook ups for all the instruments, A Mic stand (Optional, but also important to have just incase), and make sure that what ever kind of band you are you have the right guitar because if you are a slower more laid back band you would most likely use an acoustic, but if you are a more loud and out there kinda band (Like mine) you will definitely need an electric guitar.... and remember to be a good band you need to practice a ton and dont just flake out when you dont feel like it.
According to Guitar Hero and Rock Band, A vocalist, a guitarist, a bassist, and a drummer. Many people have two Guitarists, a piano player, or a saxophonist in their band, and it really just depends on your preferences, who you can find to be in your band, and the particular genre of music you will be playing.
You can have whatever instruments you want but usually it's a vocalist (who could play an instrument), a lead guitarist (a rhythm guitarist if you want), a keyboard player (I wouldn't recommend having a keyboard player with a rhythm guitarist but some bands do) and a drummer (or percussionist).
It also depends on the amount of members you have.
Here are some example line-ups:

Most commonly you need a guitar, sold at most stores like Target or Walmart. You can find them in electronics. You can have four instruments at once, drums, guitar, bass, and microphone. I have no idea where to buy the mic, but I've looked for it. The guitar can double as a bass, so two guitars for a guitar and a bass. NOTE: Guitar Hero equipment sometimes works with Rock Band 2, but only if it is Rock Band 2. It also depends on how recent the equipment is. Guitar Hero World Tour things work with Rock Band 2. Hope this helped.
The Deluxe version has Beatles-style instruments and a microphone stand, and the Value version has normal Rock Band instruments.
