He owned and played a Bosendorfer in his early career.

In 1978 he played a C. Beckstein on tour.

He is known best for being the "Piano Man". He also plays the harmonica, and the guitar, both the electric and acoustic kind. He also plays the Accordion (usually during performances of "The Downeaster Alexa.)
