The string family of instruments are those which produce sound by way of strings.

Examples - Piano, Guitar, Violin, Sitar, Autoharp, Harp. There are countless others; this is only a small list.

violin (fiddle) , harp, guitar, and a cello are a few. There's also the Viola and Bass.

The piano, by the way, is not a member of the string family ... it is a member of the percussion family because of the method required to produce tones.
