I have a Monarch and used the site (bluebookofpianos.com) to approximate its age. They have a listing of serial numbers by years.

According to their records, the 1920's started with serial number 127000. The 1930's started with serial number 217000. It doesn't list in between those years, but because they go in order, we can approximate is was made around 1922-ish. So in 2011 its around 89 years old! (older than mine! it was around 1937)

I also have a Cabinet grand that says Lyon & Taylor Chicago on it. I can't find the company history. There were may companies making pianos during that time. Lyon and Healy made pianos in Chicago (harps too) Many company records were destroyed in the fire of 1871. In the late 1970s, Lyon & Healy was purchased by Steinway & Sons. If I find more info I'll let you know. Meanwhile, have you found any additional information?

Dating an early Schiller piano such as this is tricky, as information on pre-1950s models - when Schillers were well into the 6-digit serial numbers - is not as easily available as with other brands. However, I did find a 1909 model that had been listed for sale some time ago with serial Digging deeper, an antique Schiller piano with a serial 41841 was posted online with a manufacture date of 1909; given that, it's likely the model with serial 37246 would have been produced sometime in the 1905 - 1909 range, as well.
