Chance music (also called aleatoric music) was originally used (as far as we know) back in the 15th century, with the genre of the 'catholicon', used by the Missa cuiusvis toni of Johannes Ockeghem. Back in the 50's John Cage's 'Music of Changes' was the first piece to be use random procedures. He was the first in many ways to show off chance music to the world!
