Australia is a western-style culture and the instruments played reflect this (guitar, piano etc.)

The Aboriginal people are largely westernized, but some preserve their indigenous cultural arts. The didgeridoo acompanied by percusion intruments are most comonly used.

The Saxophone ; )

The saxophone may be a contemporary instrument of some Australian aboriginal musicians as are all instruments in modern music today, but if the person would like to know the traditional instruments they are:

  • clapsticks (two hardwood sticks knocked together, varying in length from 6 inches to 5 feet);
  • hand clapping;
  • hitting two boomerangs together;
  • didgeridoo (hollow stick, several feet long, blown through using circular breathing to create a distinct sound - mainly in northern Australia);
  • skin drum (brought to Cape York from New Guinea with early traders);
  • gum leaf whistle (southern Australia);
  • bamboo whistle;
  • bull roarer (sacred ceremonies only); and
  • banging a stick on the ground.

They are generally the instruments used before white invasion.

There are many, but you are probably asking about the didgeridoo. It is a carefully chosen branch from a Eucalyptus tree that has been hollowed out by termites. The playing end has a mouthpiece made of beeswax.
