I think what you are probably referring to are the Clarinet's sliver keys, which are located between the 2nd and 3rd fingers of the left hand and the 2nd and 3rd fingers of the right hand.
The left hand sliver key allows one to play Eb with the first two fingers pressed down (Bb second register). The right hand sliver key allows one to play B as a replacement for the right middle finger (F# second register, Eb third register).
These keys are especially useful for trilling and chromatic exercises. I have personally found that the B and F# produced by the right-hand sliver key offers superior intonation and tonality to the alternative middle finger option.
The best clarinets are wooden. Wooden clarinets are black. The colored ones are probably plastic, and I doubt they sound very good.
no not all clarinets are black there is gold silver and bronze clarinets also but black is one of the most commen
Clarinets are most often made from African blackwood. This is a heavy black wood that comes from the Mpingo tree. The same is used for most oboes and wooden piccolos. Second most common would be plastic or resin. Clarinets were also made of metal at one time and are still seen occasionally. Some clarinets are now made of a mixture of resin and wood. Other woods such as cocobolo and rosewood are sometimes used. Boxwood was the material of choice for the earliest clarinets.
Melophobia or clarinetophobia.
