Britpop is a subgenre of alternative rock that originated in the United Kingdom. Britpop emerged from the British independent musicscene of the early 1990s and was characterised by bands influenced by British guitar Pop Music of the 1960s and 1970s. The movement developed as a reaction against various musical and cultural trends in the late 1980s and early 1990s, particularly the grungephenomenon from the United States. In the wake of the musical invasion into the United Kingdom of American grunge bands, new British groups such as Suede and Blur launched the movement by positioning themselves as opposing musical forces, referencing British guitar music of the past and writing about uniquely British topics and concerns. These bands were soon joined by others including Oasis, Pulp,Supergrass, Sleeper and Elastica.

Britpop is a genre of alternative rock that emerged in the UK in the 1990s. It is characterized by catchy melodies, lyrics that often focus on British life and culture, and a mix of guitar-driven sound influenced by British bands from the 1960s and 1970s. Britpop bands were known for their sharp lyrics, upbeat energy, and often a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era.
Original Pinoy Music, written by bands and singers
Britpop groups were defined by being focused on bands rather than solo artists; having drums/bass/guitar/vocals (and sometimes keyboards) line-ups; writing original material and playing instruments themselves; singing in regional British accents; references to British places and culture in lyrics and image; and fashion consciousness. Stylistically, Britpop bands relied on catchy hooks and wrote lyrics that were meant to be relevant to British young people of their own generation.

It was infinitely better. In all seriousness (although the fact that britpop is way better than the girl or boy bands of the 90s is obvious)... britpop rose to prominence in the 90s too, but I guess one way it differed was in that it was very specifically English, and tended to be pretty Anglo-centric. Also, it was more guitar based and not focused on choreographed dances (thank god). Britpop was also kind of a reaction to American grunge, too. Like, Noel Gallagher (Oasis) said that he wrote Live Forever because he was sick of bands like Nirvana singing about how they hate themselves and they want to die. That's the main thrust of the quote, I can't remember the whole thing.I mean, the most popular boy bands were American (N*Sync, Backstreet Boys, etc) and the most popular girl band was clearly the Spice Girls, but... britpop was catchy, guitar-based, Anglocentric and awesome. That is all you need to know about britpop. You can't really even fairly compare britpop bands like Supergrass or Suede or Oasis or Blur or Pulp or the Boo Radleys or Menswear or even Black Grape or Cast. It's just not the same.
