The Trumpet started out with no valves to press. It was very, very long with no bends, just a long cone. It was played in the high register where buzzing can create a wide range of notes, but because of it's size, the pitch was still low. Since then, valves have been added, improvements of metal and manufactering. and of course the kick slides that help it stay in tune. Hope this was the answer you were looking for.
In prehistory trumpets have been made of horn, metals shells.
In the 40's-60's there was a spate of experimentation which resulted in the bells being made of alloys such as Olds Ray'o'loy as in their Olds recording trumpet.
King at the same time experimented with a solid sterling silver bell in their Silversonic range and Conn used Copper lead pipes and bells in their novel Coprion process (Copper electroplated to brass).
Today trumpets are generally made of Brass alloys though some high end trumpets have copper components to them like the Flip Oakes "Wild thing".
A natural trumpet is a trumpet played without valves. It is typically straight (not curved like a modern trumpet). The notes are changed using the lip muscles, aided by some holes drilled in the trumpet (although the holes are mostly used for fine tuning the instrument).

it hasen't people just think it has
Dizzy Gillespie played a bent trumpet, the bell stuck up at a 45 degree angle. He once had his trumpet bent by accident, the tone of the instrument changed with the new shape, he liked the new sound and subsequently had a mis-shappen trumpet specially made to duplicate the sound of the broken instrument.
The pitch can be changed by tightening or loosening the lips (embouchure), depressing a valve or valves and by moving tuning slides. The pitch can also be affected by temperature and by the density of the gas being blown through it. Try playing a trumpet with a lungful of helium.
Becuase the trumpet is brass and now changed to hold
