Yoko Ono is a Japanese-born avant-garde artist and poet, who lives in New York City. (She attended Sarah Lawrence College in Scarsdale, but did not graduate.) She is the widow (and second wife) of former Beatle John Lennon, and the mother of Lennon's second son, musician Sean Taro Ono Lennon.
Yoko is the name of a spirit fox in the anime/manga Yu Yu hakusho. Yoko was a very powerful spirit/demon in the spirit world in this show, with his specialty being stealing priceless artifacts without being caught and hiding them.
Once he was caught though, he was sentenced to be imprisoned in human body, and the baby in which he was sealed was named Kurama. Kurama grew to love his mother, for even as she was dying, he, with yoko inside of him, grew to truly cherish her, even so much so to live on as a human in honor of her dying to give him birth, which is what caused her untimely death, much like gaara's mother in the anime/manga Naruto(though gaara's mother was a bit more callous than kurama's).
Kurama befriended the main character of the show, yuusuke urameshi, the spirit detective, and through their adventures (along with botan, hiei the demon, and kuwabara), kurama was forced to use yoko's powers to help yuusuke's team make it to the final rounds to put down the Toguro brothers, the real point of the tournament.
Due to the power of a Pandora's box like chest that was opened in a spirit tournament, the idunn box, the opening of the box caused his enemy's swift defeat/death by the hand/paw of Yoko the spirit fox, though it was clouded with mist so no one actually saw how that sadistic fisherman died.
Later on, much like Naruto Uzumaki, from the anime/manga series Naruto, learned how to tame his own demon fox, Kurama learned to not only how to master his rose whip techniques, but was able to curb yoko's control over him, and use that power to augment his human abilities, which aided him in his quest to replace one of the reigning spirit gods on a mount Olympus of sorts at the end of the series.
Yoko is also the name of another character in Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann. She is a girl from Jeeha's neighboring village of Littner, who had been chasing the Gunmen which entered Jeeha village. She wields an extensive arsenal of firearms and has previous experience fighting Gunmen. She uses her marksmanship from afar to assist Kamina and Simon, while they pilot their respective Gunmen. Although she is of the same age group as Simon, she is very mature for her age and she is one of the most rational members of the group. Despite initially always badmouthing Kamina for his reckless behavior, it did not take long for her to confess her feelings to him. She was also Simon's love interest until he discovered that she was in love with Kamina.
After the war with the Beastmen, Yoko decided not to take part in the administration of Kamina City and left to parts unknown, but not before asking Simon to take care of Nia. During the seven-year timeskip, she worked as a teacher at an elementary school on a small island, adopting the name Yomako. However, after learning of the events occurring at Kamina City, she left the island and broke into the Rinkane Jail to rescue Simon. After leaving the prison with Simon and Viral, she rejoins the other members of Team Dai-Gurren to aid in the war against the Anti-Spirals, piloting the Dayakkaiser.
In the epilogue, an aged Yoko is seen at the same school at which she previously taught, now working as the principal.
As Yomako, she drives a yellow, hovering scooter, most likely a homage to Haruko from Gainax's FLCL . Her name and appearance are a reference to Yomiko Readman, the main character of Read or Die, who also worked as a teacher.
