The song "Black Friday" has absolutely nothing to do with today's big shopping day. The song was originally released in 1975 on Steely Dan's fourth album, Katy Lied. The song refers to Friday, September 24, 1869, when the feds uncovered a plot by greedy investors to artificially inflate the price of gold and then upset the scheme by dumping tons of gold into the market and forcing the price down.
