The piano is in reality a member of the percussion family primarily because of the manner in which is required to produce sound, but has been "accepted" as being part of the string family in many circles.

The guitar.Also the piano, but it can be considered as a percussion instrument as well. There are alot of instruments, because they are considered to be part on the strings family not in the violin family.

The piano is strictly a percussion instrument. The player strikes the key in which the hammer inside strike the string. Yes, the piano has strings but is not a string instrument.
