Limited Slip was an optional feature and also was part of the Off-Road or UpCountry option package. Look for a warning tag in the glove box, an extra tag on a differntail cover bolts, or open the differential an inspect the carrier. The Limited Slip carrier looks different than the open differential carrier.
The front axle did not have limited slip from the factory.
I would like to know, approximately, how many registered jeeps are on the roads in the u.s.a.
I believe that is a 3.55 conventional axle ( non - limited slip )
Locking axles was not a factory option. Limited slip rear axle was an option. many aftermarket options are available.
75w90 or 80w90. If limited slip it will require 4 ounces of friction modifier.
The limited slip and Trac loc differentials require what Jeep and Chrysler sell as limited slip additive.
No, it was not standard equipment.
Open differential unless you ordered it from the factory.
As far as stock form, the rear could and the front would not. To find out if you have limited slip in the rear, one of the fastest ways is to look in the bottom of your glove box. Jeep put a notice sticker on the inside bottom of the box informing the owner of limited slip and safety information.
There were many different differentials used depending on model and equipment. Check out the identification chart in related links to identify yours.
Driving on a hard surface with the transfer case engaged to four high or four low can cause serious damage to the transfer case and drivetrain, especially if you have no-slip or limited-slip differentials.
All you have to do is jack up the front or back of the vehicle just so both tires just barely clear the ground, (some 4x4 vehicles have limited slip differentials front and back). Then all you do is manually turn one of the wheels, if they both turn together in the same direction you have limited slip, if one does not turn or turns in the opposite direction, you do not have limited slip. That test does not work on 2003 and later 2500/3500's. You will need to have the vin run by the dealer or remove the cover to know.
Open the drivers door and look for a sticker on the end of the door that shows the axle code For example : ( D4 - 3.73 limited slip )--------------------( 45 - 3.55 non - limited slip ) ( D1 - 3.27 limited slip )--------------------( 46 - 3.73 non - limited slip ) ( D2 - 4.10 limited slip )-------------------- ( 41 - 3.27 non - limited slip ) --------------------------------------------------( 42 - 4.10 non - limited slip )
Are all tires the same size, brand, model, inflation pressure, and wear? If not, correct as needed. Are you in 4WD? Many Jeeps have full time 4WD so it will always be in 4WD. 4WD often causes squeal/squeak in tight turns. Do you have limited slip? Limited slip may require an additive (posi-juice) to be quiet.
Limited slip was an available option.Limited slip was an available option.
Limited slip is not required for most situations.
a " conventional " or " regular " axle - an axle that is not a limited slip axle
